Dang it all I was down south before MPA was thought of lol. It was a culture shock, middle of June, horizontal blizzards and poor Argie kids cwapping themselves as you shot at them.

Sean.. I think you may have missed my point a bit mate though I see where you're coming from. In MPA, I was refering to Maritime Patrol Aircraft (what we in the wavy navy officially called them) and these were most certainly extant prior to 1982
It is Sean but it is also Maritime Patrol Aircraft. Prior to '82, few folk had even heard of the Falkland Islands and even fewer had any idea where they were.
You jest but that's exactly what happened. I remember watching reports on the news just after Argentina popped over from the mainland and reporters were asking 'Joe Public' in the street 'Should we go to war' and 'Where do you think the Falkland Islands are'. Based on the majority of the answers received.. Mrs T would have sent the fleet north of Scotland!! Not many Scots up there let alone Argentinians!!
