The brain sometimes rattles with the odd loose bit floating around with nowhere else to go.

So I could do with a clear out.

This Viscount was one of the aircraft scrapped in the mid Seventies, in this case 1976.

It was one of a very small number of those scrapped at the time to wear full BA livery.

I read an article many years ago about a school that had the nose of 'HR

I have never been able to find any pics or real information about it.

I doubt very much if they still have is unless it's hidden in a shed. , guess scrapped years ago.

The school started with a "K" either Keightly or Kegworth or something along those lines.

So anyone remember sitting next to a BA liveried Viscount nose in class?, that is if it wasn't painted in some other colour :think:

Quite what they used it for I'm not sure, I think it was only a playground item and probably lasted only a short time

It's one of those hazy memories that bug from time to time.


In fact anyone has any knowledge of classic British bits that don't normally get reported anywhere?

Fair enough Garry. A quick search on museum-explorer.org.uk revealed nothing. Your best bet would be an old copy of "Wrecks & Relics" I would think.

Wrecks and Relics I only have two and it's not on either of them.

In fact they contain quite a few and no one seems to have realised that the Herald noses at Jersey went to private owners so it's possible this was never listed.

The books are all at loggerheads when it comes to the 802 cull of the mid 70's, :roll: particularly with regard to the aircraft scrapped at Rhoose, HG, HN, HR and HS . The others, most of which survived in some form or another, are more accurate. One is reported to have gone to a South Wales ATC squadron ('HN?) but apart from Garry's info, there is little record of HRs demise. I think HW was the only other one in full BA livery that was withdrawn at the time.

According to ATDB, the forward fuselage went to RAF St Athan.
