FS9 CTD
Hi all,
this is probably a subject which has been covered before. But to save me and my sanity from trawling through the archives, could somebody assist or point me in the right direction.
I am basically getting during FS9, without warning or a certain time limit, a CTD. The infamous screen goes black and then I get the Microsoft Flight Simulator encountered a problem and needed to close box which has a little box ticked to restart.
This problem has been encountered over the last couple of weeks and is becoming a real pain in the arse as its always when I am mid-flight or on finals into somewhere.
I have recently installed that Project Canaries scenery and the Tinmouse 737 but cannot be sure whether these are the culprits.
I really want to avoid a re-install due to the size of my scenery and add-ons but unless anyone can assist then I guess thats the only option. :crying:

I suffer from paranoid amnesia. I can't remember who I don't trust.
Willing to try anything matey.andy wrote:Eddie,
Go into the scenery library and uncheck the latest additions, then reboot the sim. If it now works, then its the latest scenery.
It def sounds like a scenery prob.
Cheers, will give it a whirl!

Hi Vegas
I've previously had similar problems which turned out to be faulty scenery, particularly if it occurs consistanly around the same region. It may be worth removing all add-on scenery and giving it another shot. Dll's can crash FS too, so if the Tinmouse 737 installed it's own DLL in your modules folder try renaming/removing it.
Other than that it could be hardware related. My mobo heat-sink fan once died and without knowning I continued to use FS for about month. It wasn't until FS crashes evolved into system freezes and the infamous "blue screen of death" did I investigate, only to find a melted fan stuck to my case! - It could be beneficial to check your core system temperatures.

brings up a good point
system maintainance (defrag, cookies , disk clean up)
on the inside, (also maintian prog for FS)
should be accompanied by a outside cleaning
Check this out
dust on the leading edge of your cooling fan
will reduce it's effecenecy by 20% and it builds quickly
so check that often. it's more of a proformance killer
than you think.
to clean the fan quickly a can of air and a straightened out paper clip to hold the fan from spinning (over speed the fan and you can damage it)
also keep the can up right so the solids don't spray
all over the other circuits

If I fly down to Mont Saint Michel of a few degrees either side on a SE heading, about 50 miles or so inland FS just disappears without warning.
Suddenly I'm on desktop, no close down nothing it just vanishes
I am told it sounds like an AFCAD and I am trying to find out which one.
But it is scenery related, always does it these and never anywhere else.

Sounds rather like the problems I was experiencing a few weeks back. After 2 Windows reinstalls and numerous software permutations it turned out to be down to RAM going u/s.VEGAS wrote:OMFG,
