You must work miracles Garry. I've just downloaded Viscount800upd.zip following the Model Updates link at http://www.btinternet.com/~rick.piper/page_10.htm and the files are dated 7/12/02 and 25/8/02 respectively. I've never seen doors open on the model.

Well John

Kevin's problem was opening doors.

Mine open. I haven't got it any other way than through a public available site.

I don't know what you mean by miracles....the model was updated and I downloaded the update!

Hi Guys

My files have been reuploaded many times over the last year or two as hosts keep dissapearing.

Download the Alidair Viscount 800 By Tony Madge and it will give you the latest model.

Flightsim.com file is called aliv812.zip

I can't keep track as my website is regualarly hacked by saddos & the files get deliberately defaced.

Regards
Rick

A very fair explanation Rick and undoubtedly the correct one

Garry..
Re your comment on the Vanguards coming in with all blades turning.. watching the Belfast/Cov flight by EP, she comes in with the inners closed down. Wonder if this was a one-off or routine for the Merchantmen??

PeterM.. can you shed any light on this matey??

Occasionally it was done and with Herks

Also Heralds and 748 would sometimes shut down one, rare but I've seen it a few times.

The difference is that on the Viscount it was standard procedure to shut down the inners on early V.700 and the outers on all others. In fact in the early days approaches were flown with two shut down but it was felt it was not a good idea in case of a go around. :worried:

But it was not standard practice on the others.

There was even a time when BMA only started two on the Viscount and then the other two near the hold.

Brymon did that as well with Dash Seven for a while, even occasionally just starting one and when on the go start firing up the others.

Was thinking about the shut down conundrum - Invicta used to shut down the inners taxing in at Luton - The reason was (I dimly remember ) it gave you a longer lever for turning - - BMA's Viscounts seem to shut the inners as well

Hi Leif

The early Viscounts had the hydraulics pumps on the outer engines, later they were fitted to the inners and that why it was outers left running on early and inners on the rest.

There were incidents when pilots forgot and shut down the wrong two  and either had to restart or get a tow.

The early V.708 must have been modified by the time Alidair had them as they by then shut down the outers.

The Invicta (700) and some of the BMA 700 would have been the early variety and therefore taxied in on the outers at that time.

Don't remember BEA Vanguards taxying on less than four engines, Air Bridge checklist calls for the inners to be shut down though.

Cheers

Tks for that Fraser.

I wonder if by the time Air Bridge got the Merchantmen they were already concerned about engine life

Maybe that ties in with the BMA and Brymon thing (mid Eighties) when they want to save and be seen saving fuel.

Certainly every BEA Vanguard I ever saw taxy in had all four turning and strangely the two occasion just before retirement Hunting at Heathrow.

Argosy also kept four turning
