Exporting Objects...

Post by TomNocturnal »

Ok, im trying to export an object, but for some reason its only letting me save in plasma (*.PD3) format, as opposed to the (*.3DS)...

I wouldn't mind, but it won't let me import the objects I do save in the .PD3 format, back into Gmax.

Anybody know how I can sort this?

Cheers

As far as I know, if it's GMax, it can't export to 3ds natively. There may be a plugin, but I don't believe there is?

It depends for what purpose they are getting exported really.

Gmax is very much a utility to create game addons- hence all of the gamepacks that are out for it (Quake, SimCity, FS9 etc).

3ds Max is its bigger brother, with the ability to export to 3ds natively.

IF the object is to be exported to FS, then the gamepack on fsinsider.com has all the required plugins etc.

Though I could be wrong: there could be a plugin around.. I've just not found it yet!

Basically im just following a method from a tutorial I found for making the canopy.
(Its on the forum somewhere)

Basically, you draw a line around your canopy, then extrude.
Then create compund object, and Boolean.

Then pick operand b... select fuselage and change to "B-A".
(in a nutshell)

This leaves you with a Cut Out canopy, which you need to export as an idividual object.

You then press CTRL-Z to back up a few steps, then after a bit of other stuff, you imort the canopy as a seperate object, as opposed to it being part of the fueslage!

Not a Gmax person, but did you save the cut-out canopy as an individual item before you tried to import it?

I think most of the guy's on here are FSDS users, as myself.
Have you tried posting the question on the Avsim forums?
