A small question about RAM

Hi
I'm the lucky owner of 2.5 GB RAM.
3 512mb and 1 1gb
The 3 512mb are 3200 DDR, and the single 1gb is 2800 DDR
What should I do?
Get rid of the 1 gb and let the rest run 3200 or keep 'em all but running 2800? I have been told that the slowest dictates the rest.....

is the system setup as dual channel?
for sure it best to stay with the same
memoery make and speed
maybe sell the one gig ??
and buy another 512
yep .....thats what I'd do I think

Get rid of the 1gb stick. You are correct in saying that the slowest dictates the rest.

There seems to be concerns about 1Gb sticks of RAM and whether they work in all motherboards.
Or is this just "double-density"
RAM that has problems?

All depends on the board itself. Most motherboard manuals cover what RAM does and doesn't work with them so I would suggest having a quick look at that.
It's normally contained within a chart that lists what works with what when used in certain configs.

Well, I'm now the lucky owner of 1,6 GB RAM instead but all running 3200 DDR...now lets see what that does to my FPS...

Make sure that DDR is working...It may not with three sticks...Mine will only DDR with an even number of sticks :tuttut:

Spot on Peter. DDR REQUIRES matched pairs so either 2 sticks or 4 sticks
(all the same of course)

Hmm...works perfectly allright on my rig.
4 slots, 3 of 'em 512 1 of them 256....adds up to 1.6 all 3200, and its working a bliss. Don't know if its because of this, but my FPS just jumped 10 to 15 up whereever I flew.....

I think you guys are getting the term DDR mixed up with Dual Channel.
DDR is DDR no matter how many sticks are used, whereas for the motherboards that support it, Dual Channel requires 2/4 sticks.
(all the same of course)
