Whats your top three favourite Aircraft of all time?

Post by VEGAS »

Hi all,

recently saw an article in an old Flight International regarding famous peoples favourite three Aircraft of all time. Obviously not talking Flight Sim here, but the Aircraft that astonish and amaze and would log themselves neatly into your personal hall of fame.

I guess there's going to be several Aircraft out there that really float peoples boat(or should I say Plane! ).

But which specific three Aircraft would you determine as your personal favorites?

Here's mine:

1. Concorde (as if you need to ask)

2. Spitfire (any version, I just love them!)

3. BAC 1-11 (grew up with them and their infamous whine & cackle, they still fascinate me)

There's obviously stacks of others but these are the chosen ones that for me stand out from the crowd.

Viscount, One-Eleven and Vanguard for me Eddie..........but three's not enough as the Herald and Bristol Superfreighter has to be there as well.

O' heck Eddie, I'll have to think about this one!!

3 Hot drinks later!!

If you had for instance, given the option of aircraft from the years of the forties, fifties and sixties then it would be much easier.

After much thought  BAC Lightning, Trident and Spitfire but not neccessarily in that order!!
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

I know two of the following are not British, but I feel they are classic.

1 - Tristar (L1011)
2 - DC10-10
3 - BAC 1-11

Followed by HS748, Trident, VC10 etc, etc.

Too many to give a definite choice.

Sorry... You're all gonna hate me :P

DC10-10 & 30 The PW -40s don't do it for me, niether does the -15.

Ilyushin IL62M

I'm indifferent about the rest of them... My first ever favourite plane was the L1011 :P

On the contrary mate, if we all liked the same stuff then the world would be a boring place to be. As it happens I love old Soviet classics!

The 62 is rather tasty, although never EVER in the same league as the VC-10as to which it is so often compared.

My favourite Russian bird is that baddie off Goldeneye....er.. I mean a TU-134(!)

Thanks Eddie. I probably wouldn't like the IL62M if I hadn't have been on one.

Also, these are the sweetest sounding jet engines ever made in my honest opinion... this is why I love DC10s. Watch the below video. If that was either G-BYDA or DMCA i'd cry with happiness!

Nice Video there. The old girl uses a fair bit of the runway to get up.

DC-10's are a rare and very welcome visitor to Manchester these days. Agree about the engines, they sound awesome!

Anyone from Manchester remember Cal-Air 10-10's visiting frequently in the 80's and early 90's? I think they may have been ex-Laker machines but Garry will probably be able to correct me and shed some light on them.
