AGP Graphics Cards
My graphics card has decided to give up on me this evening, it's been playing up for a while and just complained that the power cable wasn't connected then worked next boot. Now i'm getting nothing.
My machine has one of those old fashioned AGP slots so i'm not sure I can get the latest and greatest, this dead one is a Radeon X800XL 256mb I think.
What is good at the moment for an AGP card, budget about 150 quid or so.
Any help appreceated.

Hardly any on ebay, I checked yesterday.
Thing is, if you own an AGP card and it goes wrong, I don't think it's a good idea to spend out on another AGP card. They are also far more expensive than a PCI Express card with the same chip.
However, this would mean purchasing a new motherboard with a PCI Express slot that will accept your current CPU. Depending on what it is, it can be done.... I did it!
If you really do want to stay with AGP for the time being then I would look at a Leadtek 7600GT for £129 or go with the option posted further up the thread.
Is the card no longer in it's warranty period?

Sorry to ressurect this one but I'm having similar problems. My Radeon X700 has died and although I might get it replaced under warranty I never liked it. The GeForce 7600GT AGP version sounds perfect for me until I do a major hardware change next year for Vista and FSX. Question is, does the 7600GT need a whopping great PSU or will my 450W unit run it OK? I know that you need a more powerful unit for the top end cards.

Re the PSU, it's not all about numbers, it's also the brand/quality of the unit.
A cheap 450W PSU will be worse than a 300W Antec for instance.
