Looks like the city council are selling Tollerton Airfield for a quick few million and an easy way out of the house building problems.

Evening Post site

Well done on killing another village if they go ahead.

How tragic - the people who destroy aviation in this way to further their own greedy ambitions should be lined up and shot.

My friend who owns G-BUUE based at Tollerton is not going to be pleased about that. And another one who managed to wreck local PA-38 G-OATS at Sheffield on a day out.

We already have two local airfields that have become (or are becoming) industrial estates - Newton (as in Rob's recent photos) and Langar. This is probably retribution for getting Newton housing plans turned down because of lack of infrastructure. Can Ken Clarke do it again?

But Tollerton area could be a classic planning nightmare scenario - build a derestricted ring road, and then build all around/along it and reduce the speed limits year by year because of the traffic density and amount of local traffic.

But I love the comment in the article"We wouldn't miss the noise that comes from the airport, but we've been here for 50 years so we've got used to it." Uhm, yes I bet the PA-38 revving up really shakes the window frames - try living near Heathrow durung the 707 and DC-8 days. Quite amazing what you can used to after living there so long. Perhaps I just went deaf

Sorry for the rant.

They're gradually all dissapearing.

Leaves us with just Gamston Aitfield at Retford all the way up North of the County, What's left of Langar and Hucknall which I believe is quite restricted due to the massive jet engines blowing all around it.

Syerston is the last military one left, although hardly used anymore.

Syerston could be used much much more than it is.

Currently there is the ACCGS there and also two gliding sqns.

Latest news on the fate of Nottingahm (Tollerton), from a colleague who owns G-BUUE based there, is that Truman Aviation have bought it.

His reaction is that it should get "better and bigger (more hangars)".

Whatever, better than covered with houses.
