Help. FS degrading badly...

Post by airbee »

Folks I need help. I can't think of anyone I would trust more to provide measured and considered advice so here goes!
Specs:
MESH PC; AMD3400; 1gig ram; Radeon 9800PRO - gd drivers; 160 gig HD. Delivered 2004.
Card settings normal. AA 6x. No temporal- anisotropic 4x.

Malware scan - ok
AVG Virus scan - ok.Change to kernel and sys32 files tho'.
Anti trojan - done.
Error checking/ defrag/ reg cleaning/, reg optimise - done.
New/BASIC install; Ordinary range display settings. Simple weather settings. No AI. No addon scenery or Tex mods to work the problem.

PROBLEM.New installs - Reasonable performance - then FPS decays from an average range for this rig of 24- 35 fps - to 8-16ish if I'm lucky.
Graphics lousy. Bad anti Aliasing/ poor all round graphic projection. Barely able to project cloud/ weather.AI nono.Screenies no go at all.
Problem 'appears' FS9 specific.

Would absolutely appreciate any insight into this - or a net resource or knowledge base pointer that could help me work the problem.
Card issue/degradation perhaps? Bios of any kind? Outside software conflict.
Considering a full reformat?
Any thoughts would very gratefully recieved! Gutted and perplexed, equally at the mo'.
PS Apologies to Mods again if Ive gatecrashed or am in the wrong section.

See Prob.

I would try downloading and running the ATI Catalyst Uninstall utility, then install the latest drivers as a starting point.

What exactly are gd drivers?

Omega 3.8 drivers for ati. They have been excellent from the word go. I have just done a driver reinstall and another FS inst; still the same!  Reformat do you think? maybe a registry thing?

You say "new installs". If this means you have just added something, then I should try uninstalling those items and see if it makes a difference. Incidentally, I had a very similar prob with the 748, for no apparent reason, which cured itself after a day or two. If you are worried about your registry, try one of the freeware reg checkers/cleaners, or go to the dos prompt and type "scanreg/all" and follow it with scanreg/fix.

One of the problems I had recently with slowing down was a number of AFCADs I had downloaded that were duplicated - it not only slowed FS down it also caused some interesting intrusions into my Virtual world - I downloaded a neat little program that checks afcads for dupes and failures
I'll post the name when I get home this am from the slave grind - unless some other bright spark has a better memory than I - anyway deleting alot of duplications cleaned us both my scenery and my frame rates :)

As a matter of interest the frame rate readout should not be in its own panel of a different shade of blue...It should be just red text on whatever background is there and is obtained by pressing SHFT+Z twice...Do you have some application installed that is doing this?

Thanks everyone for yr replies!
Yes the install at the moment is deliberately basic - an absolutely clean install of 2004 - to try to pin the problem without scenery or tex addon complications. The only a/c I have kept on for the moment are the Chippie and 1-11 - for visual reference purposes. I mean... look at that 1-11... with AA set at 6X!
I will now try the reg scans and look for duplications. Peter thks. Yep I cut and pasted line down so as to reduce the screen post size
A couple of additional bits of info. The frame rate in 1-11 2d ckpt mode is ok at 34FPS!. The only pc prob I have had recently is Internet explorer page display slowing down. But appears to have been cured... is there a shared file issue perhaps between IE and FS?
I did install and uninstall Ultimate traffic some time back- because unwell, could not complete. Thing is, on each new FS install at present AI is not present. REG?
All very weird. Hardware issue would effect the whole PC. On a basic only install it can only really be external software interference or reg issue. Why is the cockpit view ok? I just dont get it.
OK, well I'm going to try things and unless you guys can see anything else I will go for a pc reformat.
Thks again for all so far!

Are you running FS9.1?

I believe this fixed some memory leak problem if I remember correctly (my memory leaks like a sieve!).

No I have'nt used 9.1 since the orig gave me a problem on install many moons ago.
I havent tried the CFG trick either:sad: Darn it, too late now. I've uninstalled and am just in the process of backing files prior to a reformat. I'm going ahead I think; theres something too fundamental going I reckon. Shall give the innards a good old service as well.
