Lost IFR plan...

Post by DanKH »

Hi what do you do, if you "loose" your flight plan eg. gone for a cup of coffee and come back only to see that you forgot to report back to some controller, who has then cancelled your plan....
The "nearest airport" selection list, doesn't contain airports longer away than say 3 - 5 minutes....

A good question Dan and one I'm afraid I can't answer. The perils of flying with ATC I'm afraid

The best suggestion I can think of is to ignore ATC for the remainder and continue on your planned route. I presume you are using FSNav (or similar) so in which case, there isn't a problem (or shouldn't be). If you are solely reliant on ATC, then it might be good practise to print a copy of your plan beforehand!! Look well if you had a radio failure in real life  You wouldn't fly straight and level until you ran out of gas would you!

Dan and Dave -

Ive had the problem on long legs -

Heres the fix

request flight following from FSATC - After they have given you a xpndr code and you have replied you will get a box that says something like
Open a new IFR flight plan - click it on reopen the old plan and when it asks you to go back to the orginal airport tell it NO and away you go - there are two caveats to this = If your using GPS - it will restart the GPS from the first waypoint so its basically useless (I dont use it anyway _ Fly VORs and NDBs)
and secondly you CANT do it after the controller has given you approach clearance
