i remember the tune well, during the november 11 show at the royal albert hall 1989. my CPO tried to argue with the company RSM who was running the show. all i wanted to do was run. seven foot of towering mass shouting not very kind words makes you fell quite nervous.
and a prat CPO not understanding you don't argue with this man, he is second to GOD and only answers to him.

Hey Ian - did you ever know a BOAC long haul steward by the name of Taylor? his wife Linda flew for Britannia - would have been around the time of that advertisement?

Hi Leif. I'm sure I must have flown with some Taylors - but the wife on Britannia bit doesn't ring any bells.
BTW - I can confidently say that this ad was BEFORE MY TIME! I joined BOAC in 1972 - but I still wore the little white jacket and dicky bow that the Sergeant Major was sporting :redface:

I started out on the VC10/707 fleet in 1972. Although BOAC was flying 747-100s to JFK, "minis" was still the fleet to be on as it flew all the prime trips.
The youngsters here might be amazed that, even as a new Second Steward, I was higher in the 'chain of command' than any stewardess - even if she had 10 years seniority. All male crew members were senior to all female. The girls were all on 10 year contracts and were not allowed to be marrried. Women knew their place then. The body language and deference shown to the Chief (Chief Steward) by the girls in the video was typical. We should never have given them the vote! Look where we are now :huf:
But by 1978 (British Airways) "minis" had become a "dying" fleet as 747s took over the best routes. I transferred to 747s usually running the First Class upper deck lounge and popping downstairs to carve the joint at meal times
Other duties were looking after the Flight Crew (had to make sure there was plenty of roast beef left for the skipper - Jolly good show, what?) and selling duty frees. Still wore the little white jacket (carried two and got them laundered down-route) but the dicky bow had given way to a black tie :-({|=
