I've been using it for a while and am more and more impressed.

Yes Avast is a very impressive program, especially after using Norton's bloatware AV program!

Hi,

I've also been using Avast for a couple of years now and find it very good indeed. Virus database updates are picked up almost every time I connect to the internet and it's very easy to use.

It runs in the background with no detectable performance impacts but I tend to do a manual all drives standard scan weekly with a "thorough" scan monthly. My two 80GB drives can be scanned on a "thorough" check in about two hours - that's every file checked against every potential virus.
Regards,

Degsy

That it certainly is! I kick myself everytime I remember that I paid for three years of Norton before I discovered Avast, which is free and, as pointed out, updates more often automatically and doesn't bring your computer to a crawl, or load it with dozens and dozens of files.

Just to be rid of the Norton nag to renew months before the subscription ends is reason enough to switch - for me anyway.

I'm a new convert to Avast, primarily because of comments made one here a couple of weeks ago. So i may be not 2,000,000 th user but certainly good for 1,800,000 th

Will agree with above comments. Runs well & I don't mind the occasional pop up telling me my anti-virus database has been updated, and yes its free too

Bob,

As far as I know the free home version is only an antivirus
