There was a BA Jumbo a few years ago that was nicely lined up to land on the A4
The error was spotted in time

A Tu-154 was landed on a taxiway parallel to the intended runway somewhere in the CIS block not so long ago for no particularly good reason

Yikes indeed!! It seem there was a cross wind on 22 {L?R?, not sure which was being used.}. In this case, I suppose they send you around for a visual on 29. There is no ILS for 29. One would THINK you could see the difference between a RWY and a taxi way but, as I understand it,the sun was going down and right in their eye's.

Considering all that, I guess I can see how such a thing could occur. However, upon further inspection of the chart, How in the world could one not see the mistake at minimums??. I read somewhere that the Taxi way had a green light down the center but no Blue side lights. Also, the RWY is typical in it's side and center lighting but the VASI is on the Right? Not left?.
All in all, they were very lucky indeed. I feel for those guy's. I guess it could happen to anyone. Here is the link to a chart we can look at. It really makes ya wonder.

The original article said 22L. Whatever, that's quite a change in direction from 22 to 29.
I recall at Heathrow hearing requests by the tower to change from 28L to 28R or vice versa fairly late in the approach, but at least they are parallel runways.
I suppose it depends how late the change of runway decision was, etc.
Just be happy that there were no fatalities and it can be sorted so it doesn't happen again.
