Well thats not surprising, at least once a day someone will run over my traffic cones placed around my work area. i've had then ram the things into the engine bays of their cars. All i get is a very stupid look as to whats wrong.
I must point out that i'am wearing a hi-viz fire coat and behind me is my truck and b Train ( artic trailer with another 5th wheel attached and then another trailer. combined length over 120ft) holding approx 59,000 ltrs of fuel and four hose's comming off and placed into elbow's to the fuel tanks in the ground.
over here in canada they don't shut the fuel station whilst the tankers are unloading, it's everyman for himself. At least the english have it right when they shut the station down.

High viz never works. About 6 weeks ago I was on a callout (we are one of the few garages who offer a callout service) at 22:30 in a light rain. Went out to the job with the work ute. Put the rotating amber beacons on and set up road cones around the vehicle with enough room so I can do the job I needed to do (change a tyre and try and get it to go - was not a good night for her!). I was wearing a big thick high viz jacket (orange with silver reflective stripes) and was walking back to the work ute to get a spanner when I saw two headlights start to knock the bloody road cones over and come for me.
The car hit me (doing no more than about 10km - f***** lucky I didnt have broken bones and just a couple of cuts and bruises). I was in a rage and basically shoved this dickhead against his car when he stopped and got out (he would be about twice my size!) and basically screamed at him. Cop who saw the whole thing happen pulls over and the guy simply says "Oh, I didnt see him." I got back to work and my manager was waiting there for me and says "Hell, you look like you've just died in a crash!"
Now that I think about it, something was looking over me that night. High viz - about the only thing its good for is being able to pick out the body parts from the wreckage.

The most dangerous job you can have in my line of work is not on the Armed Resposne Units, it's not dealing with knife carrying maniacs and it's not being a dog handler who only go in when it's too dangerous for humans...
It's being a traffic cop on the motorway unit...
Scary place is the M1.
