Drove over to this ex-RAF airfield just outside of Rugby yesterday. It now seems to be variously used for some media/telecoms business, warehousing, allegedly a small nursery and mainly quarrying. Its very hard to see into the site as there seem to be large spoil heaps and trees around the edge of the site.

A little googling tells me it closed in 1955 and that the control tower still stands inside the quarrying area, just outside the perimeter fence for the warehouse area. From the looks of what little is left in the areial view there wre once three hard runways, can anyone confirm?

As an aside, I may head over to the old airfield between Welford and Husband's Bosworth, the main runway there is now a public road

I know this place really well. There used to be a Hunter gate guard by the Telecomms unit.

There are (or were) alot of low flying exercises around there. Harriers at the moment and there used to be the odd pair of Warthogs doing strafing runs over it.

I just love old RAF bases! I used to fly from Sleap airfield in Shropshire. Their control tower is an original. Great atmosphere!
