Does anyone know the formula FlightSim uses to calculate the position of wing_pos_apex_lon for swept-wing aircraft ?

I think this is a variable that the modeller puts in relative to the model's datum point. You just have to hope that the modeller has got it right.

Hi David
If the modeller has got it right it will be 25% of the chord entry
in the aircraft.cfg.
but you will find the only effect in FS is on the loading page and nothing different in the way it flies.
so far i have been lucky and only built straight winged aircraft.

Hi Rick,
That's interesting that it doesn't affect the way an aircraft flies, you would think it
should have some affect. If I had the talent of you modeller's I'd love to have a go at making a model for FS but sadly don't think I'll ever get round to it. Anything I was to do would probably turn out something like this :

Hi John
not sure why it is still in the cfg as it still does nothing but get the balance pointer lined up on the loading page.
it's still done in the air file but little else is in FSX

Hi Rick,
Is there a freeware airfile editor for fs9 anywhere and a tutorial so I can 'dabble' ?

Hi John
who's air file are you trying to fix ?.
there are easier ways to fix lift centre problems.
Let me know.

Hi Rick,
I've been playing a lot recently with JM's BAe146-200 but all my changes have been in the .cfg file where a lot of the aircraft geometry was way off from the datum. I moved things about by making a light in the position where I thought things should have been. The tailplane position for example was some considerable distance in front of the cockpit! I'd like to play with it a bit more by perhaps dabbling in the airfile variables as in some areas it doesn't seem quite right still. It's also for my own personal use as this sort of thing interests me. I used to deal a lot with aircraft c. of g. etc and compiled the weight and balance sheet for the Air Angla EMB110 Bandeirante when it was introduced onto fleet.

John, have you tried installing the Flight Dynamics that are included with the suggested 146 panel? That flight dynamics set seems to perform much better.
