installation help VC 10 CIK

Hello,I have tried unsuccessfully a number of times to download the VC10 cik.I am a novice at manually installing files but I managed to install the superb 1-11 and HS 748 o.k.
I extract the files then drag them to fs9 'aircraft' folder,and place the 'effects' file into the effects folder.When I look everything seems in place.
But when I run the sim there's no sign of the VC10 CIK.
I know that there's something basic I've missed.I have read and re read David Maltby's installation instructions.
Any help would be much appreciated
regards Jim

Have you edited the aircraft.cfg file using notepad,so the aircraft can be seen,below is a sample only,of the section of aircraft.cfg file,that needs to be edited.
[fltsim.0] //this would increase depending on how many aircraft repaints
title=Vickers VC10 SOLENT AIR
sim=VC101

texture=SOLENT
kb_checklists=\Documentation\Checklist_Standard
kb_reference=\Documentation\Manual

Hi Jim,
Firstly... I'm assuming your downloading the files from David's site...
http://www.dmflightsim.co.uk ... If not, bin the ones you have and download the current ones from David's site.
OK, lets start with the first file... VC10_C1K_20061009.zip
Firstly, click on Start... then "Run" (I'll assume your flightsim is installed in the default path in which case) copy the text in bold and paste it intoi the run box.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9
Then Click on OK.
A window should open with all your FS folders, including one called "Aircraft"
Next Open the zip file, and in there, there is only a folder called Aircraft.
right Click on the folder, and select "Copy"
Now click on a white space in the Window that you opened previously and right click... select "Paste" from the menu. You will get a warning message saying that a folder called aircraft already exists... this is normal, so click on "Yes to all"
After it finished Copying... Thats it.. the aircraft is installed.
You'll need to repeat the process with the panel file...VC10_PANEL_20060615.zip, the only difference being that this timeyou need to select both the "Aircraft" and "Effects" folders and copy them both, to exactly the same location as before.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi Ben.
sorry for the missleading answer,with the aircraft.cfg file.
I downloaded mine from the VA site that i fly for,as you might have guessed from the example i pasted,and yes i had to manually load it,i keep meaning to get the updated files,along with dm`s other fine aircraft,but seeing as i am the only one in our va that does the repaints at the moment,i just cant seem to get round to it,and yes i know i am missing out on some fine aircraft.
regards alan.

Thanks everyone for your help
Ben, I followed your instructions and it installed perfectly.
I have installed many addons successfully previously,albeit more by luck than judgement.
I shall now spend some time trying to work out exactly why your way works and mine doesn't,as I need to understand why !.
Thanks again
regards Jim

I have spent some time tonight looking in the VC10C1k folders to try and understand the process better and have one more question ,if you have the patience........
In the fs9 aircraft folder there are five VC10 folders:
aircraft
" 2
" 3
" 4
VC 10 C1K
Their contents appear to be mostly the same .Are these previous updates?? or more likely,am I missing the point.
thanks for your help again
regards Jim

I can image what those are.
They should be
VC10 C1K
Vickers Super VC 10
Vickers VC10 1101
Vickers VC10 1103
Vickers VC10 Research
Have you got the payware VC10 loaded?

Garry thanks for your reply.
No, I have not got the payware version.
I only downloaded the VC10 C1K .zip and did not realise the pax variant VC 10s came in in the same download.
Thanks for your help
regards Jim
