How does cargo income work?
I earned some cargo income on a 1-11 flight from Manchester to Amsterdam. This would appear to be the first time this has been earned on one of my flights. A 1-11 flight to Alicante the next day earned nothing.
It'll be something I've missed in the instructions (it always is ) but a pointer would be appreciated.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
I'd have thought that all of your 1-11 flights would have earned some cargo revenue mate. I'll have a look at your stat's
EDIT>>>
Hi Steve,
Looking at your previous 1-11 flights (a couple of them anyway) they were 1-11 200 srs (you earned cargo money) and the last one was in AVMI.. a 1-11 500. The 500's do have cargo capacity so the only thing I can think of is that Alicante being comparatively longhaul, John didn't include cargo for this flight as you'd have needed the weight for fuel. This is only guesswork as FlyNET was playing silly buggers and wouldn't let me get into the flightplan.

Hi Guys,
It took me a while to work it out. Each passenger that you carry is given a baggage allowance of 25kgs. The baggage weight is deducted from the cargo capacity as stated in the aircraft database. If there's any capacity left over then cargo is loaded up to the max capacity.
200srs cargo capacity 4360kgs. 89pax @25kgs = 2225kgs : = 2135kgs cargo
400srs cargo capacity 3158kgs. 89pax @25kgs = 2225kgs : = 933kgs cargo
500srs cargo capacity 1484kgs. 109pax @25kgs = 2725kgs : = nil cargo
The cargo capacities look odd as I'd have thought they'd all be similar so some further investigations/data hunting may be in order. Anyone got some 1-11 manuals kicking around ?
Rgds

I will tell you this from past experience with the bucket and spade brigade
As you so obviously state bag allowance is 25kgs
HOWEVER - on ALL 1-11s the problem wasnt weight it was bulk
on the 200/300/400 you would fill both pits with 130 bags
so figure 1.5 checked bags per pax which for people going on
holidays which is about right.
the500 would max out at about 165 bags - so you can see the
average holiday maker would be more restricted on the 500.
And before some one chimes in an says "But British Airwys.....etcetc
Scheduled pax are sometimes worse than bucket and spade brigade
because they are wont to carry all sorts of odds and sods.
How do I know all this?
because I spent the first summer back in the UK before being
hired by Dan Air busting bags for Luton Corporation - I was intimatly
aquainted with the insides of 1-11, Britannia, 737,vanguard, Viscount
Comet , etc etc ad nauseam cargo holds.
Anyway the up shot is the - with a short 1-11 with 89 pax on
youd be very verylucky to carry ANY cargo IRL
on a 500 with a full load it would be a cold day in hell
Oh yes. The other thing.....MOST British IT carriers tended to carry
a "flyaway" kit in the the holds (in the 1-11 it was in the front of
Hold 1 which usually included 1 nosewheel assembly, One Main gear assembly - and a large box about 3 x 3 x 6 with Skydrol , Oil, light bulbs,
etc etc in it.
Hope that helped somewhat
Leif

Hi Leif,
Thanks for the info. Difficult to apply RL to FlyNET in all circumstances so it's just a matter of consistancy across all types. I appreciate what you say about the volume but it would be nice to have accurate figures in the database. I can't believe that the 500 would have a restriction of 1484kgs across both holds so looks like some duff info has been entered somewhere along the line. Equally 4360kgs looks way too high for the 200. I don't know about the USA but certainly in the UK, baggage allowances on economy/holiday flights is 15kgs domestic and 20kgs international. Higher baggage allowances are for business class upwards. As FlyNET don't charge business/first class then I assume all pax are economy so should have economy allowances.

I agree the numbers look off
Let me see if I can persuade Mum Harding to go take a look around the Attic in Atlanta - I do believe I have at least a 111 300/400 loadsheet which shows
not only max weights but dims and load bearing in the holds and I may even have a 500 loadsheet as well - I know for sure I have a DA whizzwheel
from my days as a ramp rat at Dan Air

Here are some figures for you to conjure with re the 1-11 freight hold sizes. The clever among you can do the maths
Height and width.. 3ft/.91m - 7ft 5in/2.26m ALL versions. The differences come in the lengths..
Fwd freight hold
200/300/400/475 = 17ft 11in/2.46m
500 = 22ft10in/6.96m
Volume = 354ft3/10.02m3 200/300/400/475
451ft3/12.77m3 = 500
Rear freight hold
200/300/400 = 11ft 6in/3.51m
475 = 10ft/3.06m
500 = 15ft/4.59m
Volumes..
180ft3/5.09m3 200/300/400
156ft3/4.42m3 475
236ft3/6.68m3 500
