System crashes with FS9

My first ever post after years of happy anonymous browsing, so I'm sorry it's a plea for help...
My computer crashes straight out of FS9 and reboots with the error message "The system has recovered from a serious error, etc., etc., click here ..." which shows "BC Code 9c", a non-specific hardware error according to the MS knowledge base. This can happen after a few minutes in the Trident for instance, or about 1 hours flight with the default Cessna.
My machine is a dual core Pentium D 2.8kHz with NVIDIA GeForce 7300SE, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP Media Center SP2 and FS9. I run FS9 with the default display settings from the installation, except at 1440 x 900 x 32bit. (Dropping the resolution doesn't seem to help).
I have tried:
-Testing the RAM with two stress test programs (Prime 95 and Memtest 86), all OK;
-Uninstall and reinstall FS9 without any add-ons;
- Monitoring cooling, fan speeds and temps (case about 50°C, CPU about 60°C, GPU 64°C, fan speed up to 4,000rpm);
- Updating to the latest version of DirectX;
- Installing the latest NVIDIA driver;
- Disabling multithreading for the NVIDIA driver;
- Ringing the PC World and Micrsoft helpdesks (predictably they blame each other).
Have I missed anything, or does anyone have any bright ideas? :think:
Cheers,
