Went there a few years back, Krakow in fact. The amazing quantity of ex-Soviet and Polish MiG-21s just sitting in people's gardens! Awesome.

Some nice photos there!

I was just in Karkow this past summer and visited the Polish Aviation
Museum there. I never saw so many Migs in one place! Quite an interesting
place with all the planes parked in and around the perimeter of a field
about the size of a US footbal stadium. Plenty of exhibits in the hangars
as well.

As to the scenery above that started this thread, I spent 10-days in
the area of the Tatry's in Slovakia on my summer trip. Still plenty of
snow visable in mid-June. I also drove back up into Poland to Zakopane
and witnessed the beuty of the area from that side of the boarder.

here are a few of the hundredsof pictures I took on that trip:

Yes, the area is dotted with ski facilities. I stayed in a small village
in Slovakia while visiting relatives there for the first time and was
in awe at the natural beauty of the area. Even more so with the
cost of my loging...about $12 US for bed and breakfast in a modern
pension!

I believe the highest peaks are around 3,500 meters. There are
two main areas there that more or less straddle the piece of
Poland that dips down into Slovakia. The Zapadne ( western ) Tatry
and the Vysoke (eastern ) Tatry.

Here's a link to the area:

I was so impressed with the area that I'm going back again this
summer for 3 weeks of my planned 7-week "vacation" in Europe.

hmmm you have brought a tempting option to the table...i can't afford to ski in austria or italy this year so such places are tempting! my dad keeps telling me slovenia is the place to go
