Sorry if this is off topic.....

Having visited Brooklands yesterday.... I am inspired to read the story (car and aviation).

Trouble is... I can't find anything, having searched the gift ship, Amazon Ebay etc.

Can anyone recomend anything? I'm sure I have seen something out there

thanks

Oddly enough there isnt a lot. There is as I remember a set of volumes detailing the pre-war motoring history that show up on ebay periodically.

On the aero front, I have "Wings over Brooklands" by Howard Johnson, published around 1981. I wouldnt say it was definitive, but its not bad.

Colin..

About the best things available (with some cross over) are the videos. One is called 'Brooklands.. The birthplace of British Aviation' and there's another one which looks identical but probably says something like 'Brooklands.. The birthplace of British Motor Racing'. They're both available from the Brooklands shop for the princely some of £15

For motoring books, the most comprehensive are by Bill Boddy. Put Boddy and Brooklands into abebooks, and that should keep you busy for a month or two. He wrote a 380 page history of the circuit and several shorter books on the giant engined racers that pounded round pre-war.

There is a postcard of a famous photograph of the Napier Railton that set the outright track record (at something like 133 mph) which shows it with all four wheels off the deck over the bumps as it goes round the banking.

There's a very nice scenery add-on called vla.zip by John McKeon available on Avsim which contains a short write up about Brooklands, including an early notam. You also get early Hendon and Croydon which fit in very nicely with Golden Wings.
