Lost or inadvertantly discarded Addon Scenery/Scenery cfg

Post by hobby »

This afternoon I tried to use the Scanafcad program by Eliot Rogers to find my duplicate Afcad files so that hey could be deleted.

When I tried to run the Scanafd program I saw "cannot find the Addon Scenery/Scenery cfg". True, on my setup I have probably inadvertantly deleted that cfg. Can anyone please tell me how this file can be restored?

Or is there another method of finding and deleleting duplicated Afcads?

You could be lucky that it is still in the recycle bin.

Or search the entire computer for the file scenery.cfg

Otherwise no good answer, as anyone's scenery.cfg is dependant on each setup.... so sending you another copy won't help you much....

I think there is something wrong with that prog, as far as I know there is only ONE scenery.cfg and thats in the main Fs9 folder, Addon scenery only has scenery.dat which can be deleted as fs will write another.

scanafd is working very good, IF you use it carefully.

actually there could be several scenery.cfg files, but the active one is the one right under the FS9 main folder.

DanKH, Sorry there is only one scenery.cfg of interest thats the one in the main fs folder, when you first install there is no scenery.cfg in the C/documents/settings/joe blogs or whatever, this only appears after a problem loading something, you will also get a new directex xml file that is meant to be passed to Ms if you are daft enough to believe that they care and will try to fix the prob. The scenery.cfg there is meant to be passed to Ms. It is crap and can be deleted. There is only one scenery.cfg, the one in the main folder

Indeed, just pointed out that a search could reveal several scenery.cfg files....

I have tried on several ocassions last evening and this afternoon (Friday) to get this file to work but I have had no success. still get the same message about the file being unable to find the scenery cfg.

I have had a look in my main FS9 directory and I do seem to have numerous scenery cfgs one of which came with my MAAM DC3.

Further assistance would be appreciated.

Only one with the exact name scenery.cfg should be there... or else it should be generated...

aren't you able to start up FS at all?

You might also try to see if you have an scenery.bak file or the like.

If you don't, you might get something out of one of the existent (you say you have one from maam etc.)

Take the latest one back it up, and save it as scenery.cfg...

You might see that FS doesn't like it at rants over missing files or the like when you start up. just ignore the errors, and the first thing you do when FS fires up is to go into settings and recreate you scenery.cfg.... (add areas etc. you know the drill)

Be well aware that scanafd doesn't show WAHT to erase, it just shows you some files that might be worth looking into again....it clearly says so in the readme as well...

Fs2004 won't start without scenery.cfg - just tells you to reinstall.

If you need a generic scenery.cfg (no added scenery) which you can amend, I've got one.
