BAC-1-11 on Amsterdam to Aberdeen route ...?

I have a distinct memory of flying back home to Aberdeen from Amsterdam with Air UK on a very, very noisy a/c. This would have been around 1997. I have convinced myself this must have been a BAC-1-11, but since most 1-11's were retired by this time and Air-UK used mostly F-27's on this route, i am a little bit confused.

It was definitely a 2 rear engine mounted a/c. We sat at the very back of the plane, and after coming back from the US on a very quiet 747 it was a level of NOISE we still talk about these days!

Can anyone confirm what a/c was used on the Amsterdam to Aberdeen routes round about that time ..?

thanks

Hello matey,

Looking at the '95 AirUK timetable I have, the scheduled aircraft for that run were either 146-200 or 146-300 depending on the time of your flight. Can't imagine either of those being noisey as she's known as the 'Whisper Jet' over here  AirUK did have 1-11's as well as F100's illustrated in that link so who knows.. it might have been a one-off

I wish i could remember more details (I was very, very jetlagged) but I'm pretty sure it wasn't an F-100. It wasn't a 146 either (one of my 2 aviation near-death experiences was on one of those so i have reason to remember what they're like!)

So DaveB, where there still 1-11's flying as late as 1997?

Taking the info from here with due care:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirUK

looks like the 111s were long gone.

The F100s started sevice from 1992 and were still there when Air UK became KLM UK in 1998.

Hello mate,

Yes.. EAL ran 1-11's into the early 2000's but the question is, did AirUK still run them in '97  I don't know the answer to that I'm afraid but I'm guessing someone here will in the fullness of time

I'm sure someone will! I guess I must be suffering from false memories then, probably brought on by all the time spent behind the controls of the bac-1-11 on FS9!

Dont suppose BA ever used 1-11's on the heathrow to aberdeen route (it's another one i flew regularly)? I am determined to place me on a 1-11 at some point in my past

BA were using series 400 in the 'Eighties, until they were sold off.

I don't know about 500 likely they went but I don't know if regular.

Ok here's a clue that you could be remembering correctly.

In the production list of 111s at http://www.airlinerlist.com/ there is mention of G-OBWD owned by British World. In the notes it says:

"seen in service Bru white, logo 3.7.96/used Air UK standby seen 15.6.97 white / AirNostrum lsd 3.11.97, seen 9.11.97 and sseen 12.11.97 op by Air Nostrum stickers ............"

So Air UK standby sometime 96/97?

Probably lucky that anyone bothered to record that snippet of info for a plane that was painted white!

Great site!

So yes, perhaps I'm not just making this up after all.
