Anyone boaters in?

With all this talk about fast motorbikes (organ doners as my paramedic friend calls them) I was wondering if we have anyone into fast boats?

Although obviously its the wrong season for that in the UK, can't beat a good bit of winter restoration.

I've spent all afternoon with my arms under the big block 3.0 litre chevy (120 hp) that powers my 17ft Fletcher, trying to remove a dead starter motor.

She's a classic 1978 British Speedboat with a whole raft of chrome, vacuum powered gauges that would put a Rapide to shame ;)

Getting the upholstery re-done in the next few months (if anyone knows anywhere to get it done cheap!?) in a nice cream with red piping, and fitting plenty of uprated parts before the summer.

Last year she was getting a good 35kts + and there aren't many in the marina that'll beat her off the mark.

Only got one picture of her on the PC at the moment:

She's a pretty rare classic British speedboat as she has the inboard engine, which not many of this size do.

Come on all, share your nautical beauties!

Simon,

Is that the one that was on Top Gear a while back?

Alex

I owned (pre-first divorce) an 18 Ft Caravelle Bowrider set up for
skiing - 225HP GMC V6 - 17 x 9 RPR Steel prop - we won't talk about
top end - on a flat calm lake lightly loaded I got clocked by the local
Game and Fisheries gent at 68MPH on radar.

Caravelle havnt changed their hull design in ten years so....

The colours wrong Mine had Aqua trim - but you get the idea :)

Best I ever managed was three fairly hefty males on Slalom at one
time

Alex - yes I do believe Mr. Clarkson has shown interest in these boats. I only know of them because I'm doing some work for a guy who works for them.

You are talking over a million quid for a basic spec, you do get what you pay for though!

Be fun trying to ski behind that Paul :)

Alex - Ive often wondered about the offshore boats - but they use so much fuel - my little bugger had a 28 gall tank and that would be half a days skiing if I was lucky
