Fate of the Gatwick roof Herald

Anyone know was happened to G-CEXP?
It was taken off in September 2003
At the time it was speculated it was going to Museum run by Peter Vallence
It remained at the edge of the apron before being towed down the the far end near to the fire area.
Later that year it was reported as being donated to the fire service
But nothing I have come across gives it eventual fate.
I have only ever been to Gatwick four times.......1968,1985,1989,1993 so the last I saw of it was when it was a fairly new exhibit.

I know that Peter Vallance isn't getting it, he can't get any more aircraft as his museum doesn't have planning permission, the council try to kick him out often enough as it is!
Didn't it go to that place a couple of hundred yards up the road in Charlwood with all the harriers and hawks as often pops up on the UrbEx sites?

Hi Alex
The Peter Vallence rumour was only when it first came off in 2003.
The reason I mentioned that is in case someone comes across the PP Prune thread that says he is having it without noticing the thread is dated September 2003.
He have never had encouragement.....I remember how they tried to stop him right from the beginning.
As far as I know it went to the fire service but if it's survives....or not is the burning question

Hi Garry,
according to the latest edition of Wrecks & Relics (2006 edition). The herald still remains at Gatwick as a fire & rescue trainer. Although that information is likely to be circa 2005 due to the collation of information prior to the book going to press.
You could always call the Airport(!)

Cheers Eddie
That does confirm it did at least go to the Fire Service as indicated
If being used for none destructive...they don't set fire to the now anyway...it is likely to still be there for a while yet
