Classic British Flight Sim

Hi all

I finally completed my 'European Tour 2007' in my trusty auld BAC 1-11. Touching down today at Hurn after visiting over 25 cities, including Minsk, Warsaw, Oslo, Tunis, Charleroi and Knock brought to an end a great FS9 adventure!

I'm now on the lookout for my next FS9 adventure: a trip around the UK and Ireland. I have all the VFR scenery for England, use the Scotflight scenery for Scotland and the IFSD scenery for Ireland.

Now all I need is a good a/c. Can anyone out there recommend a good freeware a/c that

1 - has a usable/good VC
2 - can be termed 'vintage'
3 - can land and takeoff at the smaller uk airports

I'm thinking along the lines of the default FS9 DC-3, something like that. I have the HS748 but i find it too hard to fly (sorry rick!).

Any suggestions?

The BBC used a Hawk T1 a few years back, and the DSB Hawk is freeware now.

On a less frivolous note, why not pick up one of Mr Piper's masterpieces?

My first thought was that Andy.....the 748 as it has a VC as does the Argosy but the 748 is mentioned in the post as too hard to fly......but it isn't any harder than the One-Eleven :think:

Another would be Del's Dove but it has no VC

Ah, missed that point Garry. Rick's productions are such a fixture on my machine that I tend to forget the lack of VC; also, until my recent widescreen monitor purchase, I've tended to do most of my flying from the 2-D cockpit.

I'd get hold of 10 or so high quality models and use each in turn. Its what I plan to do for my virtual round the world trip in FS9.

thanks, some good options there I'll look into them this weekend. I have the Chipmunk too, but I'm looking for something a little larger. I'd probably go for the Dove, even though it has no v/c, but thats the sort of a/c I'm looking for .

As for the HS748: perhaps it requires more practice, but I find it too responsive. And for some reason, the engines keep cutting out on me at inoppertune moments (like last night at 11,000ft over Stavanger). The 1-11 in comparison is a very smooth a/c, not too over responsive and just great to fly.

Either the Dove or 748/780 would be good choices. I'm a little miffed why you find the 748 difficult to fly :think: There are very few things you have to do in order to fly it straight out of the box and not break.. you don't even have to follow Frasers excellent checklist. Pitot's on.. generators on.. fuel heat on and if you think you're going to fly high enough or cold enough.. a bit of engine deice. Other than these.. DON'T REV THE KNACKERS off it for a prolonged period.. eg, takeoff power until 120kts then reduce to 14200rpm or thereabouts for climb cruise. Easy peasy lemon squeezy

As soon as you know what you can get away with, it really is the most beautiful model to fly as is the 780/Andover
