Well eventually I went down the route I used to take and bought parts from ebuyer, which arrived yesterday. Probably the main mistake I did make was to attempt to think "forward" and get Vista rather than XP.
It looks very nice but it wont let you do anything! I cant get my BB modem working with it (even with alleged Vista drivers), so I have set up my old PC, which is on its last legs, so I can access the wider world

2x DDR2-4200 512MB DIMM
Asus P5L motherboard
Western Digital 250MB HDD
Asus EN7300GS Graphics card (NVidia GeForce 7300GS GPU)
Logitech cordless desktop (VERY nice and VERY cheap!)
Philips 190CW 19" widescreen TFT
Black and Silver ATX tower case with 400W PSU
NEC DVD+-RW 16X (pinched from my old PC!)
Now got Vista (and my modem) working happoly together, all going well so far but no flightsim on this PC yet!
