BAC1-11 Slats + GPS

Couple of questions about the real BAC 1-11 (Incidentally, my favourite DM jetliner to hand-fly in FS2004). 1) Surprised this aircraft never had slats/droops, compared to the other rear-engined jetliners of that era (Trident, B727, etc.)? 2) Were the later 1-11's in service ever fitted with a GPS sy...

Re: I tried - I really did !!

Notwithstanding all the (previous?) frame-rate issues, etc., with FSX - I saw it on display at last years Brum Flight Sim Show and frankly, in one word it just looked 'Cartoonish'. I do not have the time or inclination to add-on improved scenery that should be there in the default edition. Therefore...

Re: Your first flight 'Sim'?

I went to one of the first Computer shows at Earls Court back in '83-84 to try and decide whether to buy the C64 or the Sinclair Spectrum. I had the good fortune to meet Dave Marshall of DI who was demonstrating his Fighter Pilot F15 simulator on the Spectrum. That decided it for me! Off to 'Boots' ...

Re: A Comet Special...

Nice Landing sequence.

General question - does anyone else move the Comet's centre left windscreen pillar to the left using the aid? I find it greatly assists the landing view perspective but, still looks realistic.

Re: Heads Up - Comet Crash TV Doc.

Further my previous posts, got around to watching this new(ish?) production (defnitely not seen yet on terrestrial tv) and was very impressed at the atmospheric reconstruction of events both using actors and a real comet plus, the interlacing of cgi graphics. Also, witnesses and later on a current d...

Re: Book Recommendation

My favourite aviation book (a novel) is 'Cone of Silence' by David Beaty. Technically out of print but believe you can trace copies. Based on a fictitious early British Jet Airliner called the 'Phoenix' suffering take off problems at high tewmperature/weight. (Believe the author had met in real life...

Re: Carvair Vid

Never mind the slow rate of climb - my first commercial flight was on one from Southend to Rotterdam in September 1970, as a 'foot passenger' (i.e. no accompanying car) - The landing was 'firm' to say the least!

Re: Avro Lancastrian queries

Thanks your reply - I like to think I'm fairly experienced with Radio Navigation and understood that, there are some VOR gauges which, like an NDB, also simply point a needle at a VOR station - for example the VOR2 gauges on DM's 111/VC10 are a case in point. Since the Lancastrian is an older plane ...

Avro Lancastrian queries

Have been flying the Avro Lancastrian which handles very nicely/realistically. Couple of navigation questions though:- 1) When tuned the NAV1 radio, the BABS vertical dme indicator works but, the horizontal radial indicator always points either far left or right. I have turned the plane directly tow...

Re: Heads Up - Comet Crash TV Doc.

Hi 'delticbob' - I recollect the previous 'Secret History' programme - remember it was more of a 'trial by tv' type programme critiscising everything from airframe to engines albeit, informative for us enthusiasts. Check out youtube where there are a few excerpts. This definitely seems to be a new(i...
