Avro Lancastrian queries

Have been flying the Avro Lancastrian which handles very nicely/realistically. Couple of navigation questions though:-
1) When tuned the NAV1 radio, the BABS vertical dme indicator works but, the horizontal radial indicator always points either far left or right. I have turned the plane directly towards the VOR tuned (cheating using the GPS as a guide) but, the latter indicator doesn't move.
2) Also, the (default DC3) VOR needle indicator doesn't move towards the VOR tuned (checked with aural morse).
Am I missing a step here? (The NDB specific gauge and needles respectively move/work ok.)

Crisso - I hope I'm not teaching my grandmother to suck eggs etc, but the VOR is not affected by the heading of the aircraft - rather it is a command instrument showing where any given radial lies in relation to the aircraft. If you want to fly direct to a VOR from any given position, first centre the needle ( with the arrow pointing TO the VOR ) by using the OBS ( Course) button. The course will then represent the radial on which you are situated and the required track to reach the VOR. Similarly , if you wish to intercept a radial, select the radial in the course box and then turn ( not more than 90 degrees) in the direction the needle points until it starts to centralise

Thanks your reply - I like to think I'm fairly experienced with Radio Navigation and understood that, there are some VOR gauges which, like an NDB, also simply point a needle at a VOR station - for example the VOR2 gauges on DM's 111/VC10 are a case in point. Since the Lancastrian is an older plane and, the BABS gauge unique to me - I thought it was a similar simplistic one?

I think you might be referring to our Lancastrian (Manfred and I) not the PD version. Babs and Direction Ind (crossed needles) are by Ted Cook, we used them with permission. Ted might be the best person to advise you. I am a 'dumbo' when it comes to navigation, I get excited if I manage a landing!

Crisso - I understand now : the instrument you refer to on e.g. the 1-11 is an RMI which is a combination instrument , combining a raw VOR ( or NDB) with a DI
