Mike Dickin

Post by Chris558 »

I've just heard, on the James Whale show, on Talksport Radio, about the death of Radio Presenter, Mike Dickin.

Being addicted to Radio Phone-in chat shows, I always listen to the legendary James Whale, and often listened to Mike (on the same station) too.

Sadly, Mike (known as Radio's 'Mr Grumpy') was killed in a car crash, yesterday. (18th) Even more sad at this time of year of course. He'd been in the business for many years, formally on LBC Radio, in London, and hosted the very first Phone-in show on Radio, which was on Radio Oxford in 1970.

Digressing very slightly, I would recommend listenng to James, if you've never heard of him, He used to have a show on ITV aswell.

A link to Talksport's web site, for anyone intersted, follows.

Very sad news....not that I have ever heard of him

My thought to his family at this difficult time

* * * * * *

I do remember James Whales TV show.......he was rude arrogant and downright insulting

He once went to Hatton Cross and just took the micky out of Aviation Enthusiasts.

A horrid smart arse of a man...all he did was humiliate folk

His phone in's were embarrassing....he was just a bully

I was glad when his show was taken off

I do recall the name Mike Dickin but rarely listen to Radio Oxford I'm afraid.. more your Fox FM

Unfortunately, I have to agree with every word Garry wrote about James Whale. It sum's him up exactly :huf: Maybe he's better on radio but from past experience, if he were the only bloke on radio.. my radio would never be turned on.

As a diehard talkSPORT listener, I was deeply saddened by Mike's death especially as it was in such tragic circumstances. For someone so active in the motoring world to die from a heart attack at the wheel of his car was a cruel way to go.

To see some more glowing tributes to the guy, come over to talkforum.org, my 2nd home!

I didn't know for sure that it was a heart attack, although Whale did speculate that.

He also said that Mike drove one of the Minis in 'The Italian Job'.
