Jonesy - you definitely have a lovely pair of sparrowhawks there. The smaller is the male and called a 'musket'. You're doing them a great favour by attracting the garden birds to your feeder where they can pick them off at will :dance:

There was an article in The Times last week about the amazing recovery of the Greater Spotted Woodpecker. They are now becoming frequent visitors to gardens because they find it easier than picking through bark to find insects. At the same time they are also finding it easy to pick off fledglings and eggs and are using their wood drilling skills to break into nest boxes. They will soon be as well-loved as magpies.
Not that I'm criticising you as we've got two cats. But at least I don't try and attract their prey for them Perhaps a plastic vulture on the roof will keep the predators away

Ive also seen a poor Collard Dove being pulled apart at the end of the garden by one last year.
We've got a similar thing down here in sunny Sarf London. I live on a leafy suburban street, but about 2 minutes away is a 4 storey block of flats - which makes a lovely surrogate cliff as far as our newest neighbours, the peregrine falcons, are concerned. We've had a couple of pigeons being dismembered in the garden (fascinating viewing, even without a Bill Oddie voiceover) and you can tell when they are about as the very lively bird population (pigeons, sparrows, tits, finches, magpies etc) go very quiet - first time I've ever seen a sparrow try to look inconspicuous, "You ent seen me, right".
Perhaps a plastic vulture on the roof will keep the predators away
