As and aside

Dos anyone know that apart from an early round the world trip that stopped in LHR...did the QANTAS SP's ever visit England.?

They certainly hadn't by the mid nineties but I don't know about since.

They were for Pacific routes mainly

Don't think they ever did Garry. After hunting around I can only find one machine which only came as near as Frankfurt in 1992.

Hi Eddie

I wonder if that was the round the world of something else

One did visit Heathrow that's for sure but as far as I know that was all............that Frankfurt may be something else as it seems a bit late for the LHR one  :dunno:

Hi Garry,

you could be right mate. It does'nt say why it was in Germany. Its a little far to divert there from the Far East!

Might have to do some more digging.

I can't find anything much either Eddie

One thing I did find was that they were at first used on the Sydney-Wellington so as to increase the pax carried into the relatively short Wellington runway.

I only ever saw one of the Qantas SPs. Same one as in the A.net photo, VH-EAA. But at LAX in 1981, not in Europe.

From what I remember in the chats with Heathrow spotters it was "A" on an around the world pre service promotional and I always had the impression it this but that was not actually said.

This is why it was there and not on it's destined patch, which in effect could not have been further away.
