Well I settled for the Alphasim one in the end, but hopefully this thread will be useful for others who might be considering the PBY. Its one of 'those' planes from history that FS screams out for.

It also comes with a paint kit, so I might just have a crack at repainting it in some form or other.

Dave B, I see what you mean concerning this model, but I have to say I do like it a lot! :wink:

I'm glad I didn't put you off as that was not my intention. Better to know what you're going to get if poss and with that in mind.. there is less of a disappointment.. perhaps even unexpected surprise come Plastic Time :wink:

I've never been a great fan of sea planes (and M$ don't help with the lack of bases) but the 'Cat' was a 'Must Have' for me too :drinkers:

there's a really nice grumman widgeon out on avsim, i don't know how well it compares to the catalina:
