Hi Andy

Does it run when you're not on line?

Andy -
In case FSX is still crashing on you,
could you add some more detailed info.

Ignoring the weather for the moment,
as it could be conflicting DDLLs.

Please confirm & respond -

When you say 'change aircraft'
was it -
1) In-Game, using 'Select Aircraft' dialog, without starting a new flight.
or
2) In-UI, via the 'Free Flight' dialog, i.e. starting a new flight.

If 1)
When exactly did the crash occur -
3) On selecting and editing details.
or
4) After clicking OK, during loading the chosen aircraft into the situation.

If 2)
When exactly did the crash occur -
5) Within the 'Select Aircraft' dialog, before it appeared in the 'spinning' preview window.
or
6) After clicking OK, during loading the chosen aircraft into the situation.

Which aircraft does this happen with -

7) FSX Default
8) Add-Ons
9) All aircraft
10) One particular aircraft

If 8) or 10)
This sounds like you have an incompatible aircraft, (or corrupted).
probably a gauge incompatible with FSX or Vista.

When you initially started crashing,
what was the aircraft in your previously default flight ?

Temporarily remove that a/c's folder from FSX.
You'll have to exit FSX to do so, (if it hasn't crashed already).

Relaunch FSX.
Can you select & change aircraft now ?

Previously -
When you deleted your FSX.cfg,
you removed the ref to the previous flight
which includes a ref to the aircraft & weather situation
hence the problem went away.

Paul,

FSX crashes whether im starting a new flight or just changing aircraft.
I can just be changing airports too!

1) Crashing occurs on selecting the editing details.

2) Crash occured within the 'Select Aircraft' dialog, before it appeared in the 'spinning' preview window.

3) The crash occurs with any default FSX aircraft.

4) The previous default aircraft is the Air Creation Ultralight.

I'll try removing it from the folder now and report back.

I've got FS9 working very nicely, all sliders maxed out totally!

Cheers,
Andy M.

Hi Folks

Andy -
Given your answers above,
you shouldn't need to remove the aircraft.

When you edit the aircraft details,
FSX writes back to the selected aircraft.cfg file.

When you change location
FSX writes back to the FSX.cfg file.

You're on Vista.

It sounds like it might possibly be a file access permissions related issue.

Are you logged on as Admin, or just a user ?

If as logged on as a user
try the same as Admin.

Might the account that FSX runs under be different than the user that has logged on?.

If you go into your local security police (under Control Panel) and change your settings under Audit to at least failure, you might be able to see some logging's in the security log in the eventlog.

Running FSX / Vista here too and not seeing any problemms. remeber in Vista Admin acces does not actually happen unless you right click on the exe and select run as administrator, which I don't have to do.... something funny definately. What AV are you using? I exclude my FS folder from scanning, don't know if that might help

Just on the off chance Andy, have you tried disabling Norton completely (but disconnect your PC from the net first)
