Autopilot ILS Approaches

Hello.

I wondering if anyone knew of any other aircraft available for flightsim that had a decent built in autopilot (not the default MS one) thats got all the bells and whistles like the Trident and VC10 :dance: here, with features like the auto flare, that make approaches that actually work

I have the LevelD 767 and PMDG 747 which have these features, but are there anymore? (freeware or payware)

Hi Steve

there are a couple of other freeware aircraft that do have some sort of autoland: the SGA A300 with the panel by Monsieur Benoit Gaurant, the Project Fokker F28 and the Yakovlev Yak-42 and to a less extend the Boeing 727-200 package by the World's Serious Pilots.

And a final note: Samdim have a very good Antonov An-24 and the beautifully crafted Tupolev TU-114 with one of the best turboprop sounds you'll ever find (apart the HS 748 by Mr. Rick Piper)

P.S. I know that none of them are British as I'm not aware of others that have the required autoland capabilities. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Forget the Project Fokker F28. The update includes an autoland facility, but when I tried it hunted the glideslope, and then when at about 20 feet agl it pitched the nose of the a/c sharply downwards! The flames were spectacular though. The aircraft is quite nicely modelled, (although it suffers from some pitch instability )but the panel is not a patch on Dm efforts

Am I right in thinking that of the 1-11's only the 510's which had the different autopilot could autoland....where the aircraft cut throttle and autoflared, as I've tried the other models and they tend to land flat with no autoflare.

Yes, the 1-11 510ED has autoland, none of the other 1-11s do. Switch on 'Prime Land' once established on the ILS.

Autoland isn't the easiest thing to do well in FS and it's probably not fair to expect too much of it on most models. It's usually a bit of fun.

Automation was the main feature of Tridents though, so that model was developed specifically to do those bits as well as possible.
It had a ridiculous amount of effort put in just on the autoland, so you can expect it to handle it better than most. It can even handle a stiff crosswind.
A half decent IAS mode as well, which is harder than autoland!
It was work that only got done because it seemed vital at the time. I'd never take on something that tricky these days, no chance.

The Trident's autoland code ended up in the 1-11 510ED & VC10 models too.

DM - I'm glad you gave that explanation - I hadn't realised it was a very difficult area to simulate, or I wouldn't have been so hard on the latest version of the F28. Funnily enough though, in my experience autopilot prblems are amongst the commonest difficulties in real world aviation, and certainly cause you a great deal of grief if you do not monitor properly
