Difficult choice. I liked all the ones mentioned so far.

Also liked "Fate is the hunter", based on one of my all-time favorite books.

..... which reminds me of the story of the two goats which were rummaging in the garbage outside MGM studios.

They were eating pieces of film (offcuts) and one goat said to the other...

"Not bad eh?"

Some superb films already mentioned and many in my DVD library. One not mentioned yet but which I always enjoy watching is Air America.

Besides those mentioned above, I also enjoyed the flying scenes in Air America and Always.

John - Have to agree with you about Always

Besides getting to drool over Holly Hunter - It is a nice smaltzy movie to
watch - the title is also engraved on the inside of my wedding band

Has to be "Battle of Britain" for me, as this was the film that sparked my interest in aviation. But "Reach For The Sky", "Dambusters" and "Angels One Five" deserve an honourable mention.

Crossing the Atlantic, yep "Always" is a good one. But what about "The Spirit of St Louis" and "The right Stuff", two all time classics - and the latter even had a cameo from the great Chuck Yeager!!

Not sure if you get Turners Movie Channel on that side of the pond
but the are advertising 24 hours of "Aviation" movies on Tuesdays
and Thursdays for teh rest of the month of July ....

Including - High and the Mighty

I hauled one out of my video files the other night that I'd forgotten for some time.

'The Bridges of Toko-Ri', with William Holden as a USN Panther pilot in the Korean War, and Micky Rooney, no less, flying an S-51 plane guard helicopter.

Back then the carriers were all straight deck too, so every landing was for real, no go-arounds possible. Lots of real action footage of cat launches and landings to boggle at.
