No, the four Harriers were for the Falklands Commemoration at Pangbourne...The Queen was there also, along with many Military persons and the Blairs and Baroness Thatcher and Mark Coreth who sculpted the Albatrosses outside the chapel.

My dear wife was there in the gallery as well. She is staying at the Navy Club for a few nights and is marching tomorrow (Sunday) at Horseguards where the Queen was today for the trooping of the colour on her official birthday. I saw the flypast today over Buckingham Palace, on TV, but I don't think the Harriers were present in that.

I was working in Lincoln most of this last week and there were loads of RAF stuff o'head most of the time. Seemed to be on a South to North flighpath from Waddington, o'head the Cathedral, to Scampton and then peeled off to the east.

I saw four Hawks tagged onto a VC10 twice, and the 2d time the two starboard Hawks were from The Reds. Four more Hawks came over later in loose formation with a Nimrod R1 of all things! Later we had single and two ship Typhoon flights as well.

But aren't they practicing for the big flypast up the Mall tomorrow, Sunday? My daughter, an RAF Controller, is on duty at Odiham tomorrow to dispatch all the rotary wing stuff for the event and they are meant to be carrying on after the London flypast to pass o'head Kemble for the Air Day there.
Regards
Kit

It was family day at Brize Norton today!

I was working in the garden and saw a hurricane fly past, later a beautiful spit which did a fantastic aerobatic display over the airfield.i couldn't tell which mark of spit, but it had d day markings!

Then a nimrod and a four ship of tornados(I think they were tonkas but I didn't have the binocs then). the Falcons did a jump and all in front of increasingingly inclement weather nosing over!

I even stopped work to get my binoculars.

At Benson over the last few days I have seen the Harriers going over as a 5-ship with one just off the box. Then the next day it was just a 4-ship.

:dunno: Maybe it was for the queen, I dunno...

They weren't in that flypast, no. I referred to the original formations that were mentioned.

Was visiting Oxford today and was in one of the colleges in the late afternoon when 4 Tonkas (I think) flew past in formation, followed by a Vicky 10 (our own Mr Tonks?) with a number of fast jets flying in formation behind it followed by what I think was a Nimrod. It was quite a distance and driving back home tonight I realise I need some new (stronger) glasses  Anyone confirm any of the above?

It was the Falklands flypast (was on BBC earlier) it was actually 4 Hawks with the Vicky the others were probably the Typhoons, or the 5 Domine's....

... I was a little pissed off at the comintator saying the reason there were no Harriers was that they were single engined and un reliable.... they were reliable enough in 1982. :curse:

I think he may have been stretching the truth a little there Ben. There are restrictions on single-engine aircraft flying over the Capital but one would presume the RAF are exempt from such restrictions as they are most others  I think his main gaff was that the reason there were no SHAR's in the lineup wasn't so much because of the 'single engine' restriction.. more that there aren't any SHAR's.. something he failed to comment on (even though one of the interviewees did)

Indeed Dave, but last I checked, the hawk was single engined too... although if it came to it I'd rather atemped a glide in a Hawk than a Harrier :worried:

On the button sir  Isn't it infuriating when these 'so called' experts get sh1te so terribly wrong :curse:

Remember a while back when that Venom (or was it a Vampire??) got caught in the jet wash of the Sea Vixen it was displaying with causing a flameout and crash killing both crew?? The Times reported the pilot as a 'Stunt Pilot' A STUNT PILOT!!!!  I emailed the Times and told them what a bunch of tossers they were and how incredibly wrong their report was
