Flew the VA way from Manchester to Schiphol today and about to intercept the ILS 01L when after just completing final checks for landing I looked up and saw an aircraft in front passing right to left.
By the time I located my camera it was then at my ten o' clock but just managed to take this photo!!
Does this count as a near miss? :think:

In real life this happens all the time. Only considered bad if you had no idea that another AC is in the area (VFR). Sometimes at a non-towered airport (or uncontrolled airspace) some old geezer will cut you off on base because he may have to go potty, or in mil patterns if he has a higher rank he will swoop right under you and land first. In California you have to be on the lookout for close encounters with flying lawn chairs and other assorted high flying x craft
In controlled airspace this most certainly does not happen all the time, in Europe at any rate . It would not rate as an airprox, but an aircraft passing R to L at the same level as close as this would certainly raise the possibility of a conflict
I wish I was as quick as you - I just ran Gander to Keflavik and was sitting dozing at FL330 east of Prince Christiansund when something caught my eye - a very smart looking Icelandic 757 flashed past 2000 foot above on the reciprocal of my 1-11s heading - and it had been very very quiet out there - most traffic is on the NATS but sometimes AI does get very close
This is the first time that I have had an A1 that close, cannot understand why ATC had not instructed me of its' proximity at the time still, having said that, it was around 10.30hrs so guess they must have been taking their morning coffee break........Just cannot get staff these days can you!! :roll:

I had one a few weeks ago that made me duck and the old ticker stopped for a second or two :shock: Can't remember where I was or what I was flying but for a spilt second.. an AI MD80 appeared from under my nose in the climb and was gone over my head. It literally filled the view out!!! Couldn't say how close it was but it was certainly only a matter of feet. Considering fitting TCAS to everything I fly now.. either that or suffer a heart attack!
Trying to remember which one of the Turkish resorts that had a really close sid/starset up = Bodrum prehaps??? I went there three times with TLA and every time you got continous TAs on the STAR with an occasional RA just to keep things clenched - The Transaer guys I flew in there with said it was always like that and the Turkish ATC wernt so hot on seperation - of course The area around LAS during peak periods can be about as interesting - you mix it up with other airline traffic, Plus GA traffic from three ariports plus the RF guys from Nellis - The permanent residents at Nellis are usually pretty
alert but the visiting Military traffic especially overseas fast Movers stray frequently into McCarrans airspace
