Halton Airfield - FSX - WIP

Post by JimCooper »

In the process of re-creating Halton Airfield for FSX...primarily for use by 613VGS.

Have edited the Terrain.cfg to remove the FlattenMode so that you don't get an horrendous 'cliff' around 3 edges of the airfield.

I agree ...but 613VGS have both FS9 and FSX on their 'Simpit' and they're using UK2000 airfield for the FS9 version - which is very good. The GenX mesh and scenery is so much better in FSX (hates to admit it) so they prefer to use that. ..BUT below about 800ft you lose all depth perception on the GenX so you have to have some 3D objects.

Jim

I have no problem it being FSX ;-)

I must admit that FS9 have benefited largely at the 3 year time span, so it must be about time that we move on to FSX like or not ;-)

But because of the 3 years lifetime for FS9 there has been made so many excellent sceneries and aircraft that a lot of us has a hard time converting.

That and the fact that a decent FS9 machine has a hard time running FSX... but I DO think that FSX needs more attention regarding development.... ;-)

So thank you for a pure FSX scenery-project Jim. Looking forward to it.

Wonderful. I did an Air Cadets camp there back in 1987. I recall seeing many RAF gems including several Gnats and a derelict Argosy that we were'nt allowed to go near.

Looks great Jim... no FSX complaints here.

Just out of curiosity, did there used to be hard runways? I just can't imagine Gnats and JP's landing on the grass? :dunno:

Hi Jim

Ah.. with you on that mate  There being no Halton for FSX yet, makes sense to make one

I agree that the GenX mesh is stunning in FSX and to be honest, even the default mesh is head and shoulders over the FS9 default. The unfortunate problem I have is that GenX makes FSX run so bad on my system that I leave it disabled and I'm so used to seeing VFRPhoto/VFRTerrain on my FS9 load that I don't like flying without it. Catch 22  Load it up.. runs like poo. Take it off.. looks like poo :brick:
