Multiplayer FSX for CBFSIM
Moderators: Guru's, The Ministry
Just installed fs commander and at first glance looks ok as a moving map. Re the historic accuracy, it would be nice to try... rgr the 140kts in the drop zone. Moehne, Eder... Just found this... quite detailed...

I guess we'll do wave 1. On another note.... are there other repaints of the Lancs that we can use for acuracy?

Hi Ben,
As far as I'm aware, there is only one 'BIII Special' paint for the PD Lanc.. probably the others too as most folk will want to be Guy Gibson
I've just flown the outbound leg up to and including the Moehne and the waypoint is slightly off to how I remember it in FS9.. but not by much. The area is not particularly well defined using the default scenery (when compared to the excellent Germany#3 for FS9) and will not be easy to identify in the dark  Time to that waypoint is 2hrs 38min!! Flight was done at correct speed 140kts/164mph +/- and at sub 500ft. Waypoint 8 to 9 is done at 1000ft to aid identification
The second target area is some way off and the third a fair bit further still. I doubt if many will be able to afford the time for any more than area 1 and even then, probably not for the return. Do you aim to do the full outbound to and inbound from area 1??

Hi John,
All you need is a Lanc (preferably a Upkeep one)... DG's will fly fine in FSX after the FS2004 update is applied, I have the PD one too which works fine. I'm not sure of the others but no reason to assume that if they worked fine in FS9 they wouldn't work in FSX.
DB, I fancy the full monty, but anyone who feels area one is their limit they can identify themselves and Gibson can send them home after the Moehne.
If anyone has the skill to knock up a few other repaints for this flight feel free. hint hint. Lets hope the connection is as good as Monday Night!

Hi Ben,
Oh dear.. I'd better get some matchsticks for the old eyes then. Went to bed at 5 to 4 this morning and am feeling shell-shocked already
I did have DG's Lanc loaded.. just couldn't see it so I'll drag that into FSX. I've put the WoP Lanc in too so if anyone has that.. at least I'll see another Lanc (and not a Hampden Trev!)
Off to see if there's any FSX compatible scenery for the area

Dambusters.zip at Asim for FSX

John
Downloaded but not checked yet.Scenery for the 3 dams in Germany (the Moehne, the Eder and the Sorpe) and for RAF Scampton from where the aircraft took off. Included is a README.TXT file with installation instructions and an HTML file with advice on how to put together a quality freeware FSX Lancaster, and how to find the dams at night etc.

Hi John
I think I've pulled the same file off Allnodes though the filename is slightly different.. dambstr.zip
It does sound very much like the same one from the description you've given
Just had a look (at night!) and it will make target identification much easier though no less difficult to hit  The first two dams are well lit (not visited the third as only GG went to all 3) and sit proud of the surrounding water to their full height. What this means is that they look great from the back and show the full expanse of concrete but from the front.. the area we're concerned with.. they're far too high (not just proud of the water as they should be). Anyone who can skip an upkeep over one of these will personally receive a fiver in the post!
TBH.. I already have a sense of foreboding about this mission so apologise now for any wrong doing you may see!!

PRACTICE!! He who dares wins Rodney
What's Derwent like in FSX Trev.. that is, for those without GenX??
Been speaking to John (RAF_Q) about it this afternoon and I think his plan of attack is the best way to go as he's MP'd this with RAF622 CFSG.. that is, approach target 1 to the right (in line astern) making a lefthand turn for the run. On completion, do a righthand turn (still line astern) to target 2 which will leave a further RH turn for the run followed by a final RH turn to get the hell outa there. No fancy flying around, directing individual aircraft in. That's far to real
An echelon can be flown up to waypoint 8 leaving the transit from 8 to 9 (target 1) for us to formate line astern and if desired, on completion of the run on target2.
The important thing is that we don't lose anyone along the way.. easier said than done I fear  Fortunately, the initial leg from Scampton to the coast is a long one which will give us time (he says, looking the other way) to settle down. Those using GenX will have a slightly more difficult time as I believe it's night lighting is still not up to much though this will change for us all as we cross the Dutch coast.
Bottom line is.. if it all goes to pot (and there's a strong chance it will), we can come back and do it another day
Let us pray for a good connection
Question time..
Ben.. will you be hosting??
What time are we all to be ready??
Who is taking the challenge of being WingCdr Gibson??
We still have no idea of possible numbers yet.. I count 4.. me, you (Ben), Trev and JohnP.

Hi Dave... I should be home from 20:00, so any time after that... ideally no later than 22:00. I'm happy to play follow my leader, so if your Multi Monitor setup is working Dave, I suspect your best place to be Gibson.
I'll host... no problem there. Apparently you guys seem to be seeing plenty of green when connecting to me, so I'll happily give it a go.
Fuel permitting, is it an option to fly slightly faster to the dutch coast to reduce the time? Maybe 160 kts?
