RNAS Culdrose Air Day 1957 - Colour Photos

I still haven't been able to track down the name of the photographer of the slides I've been showing but I do now have the permission of the slides' current owners to share some of them with you. :yipeee:

As DaveB's excellent photos of Culdrose's 60th Anniversary Air Day are still fresh in the mind, I thought it would be a great opportunity to compare them with the same gathering 50 years earlier - July 1957. Apart from a little brightening to (try to) make up for the deficiencies of my scanner, I've resisted the temptation to crop or otherwise manipulate these slides in Photoshop so they're presented here 'as is'.

I hope you enjoy them - there will be plenty more to follow. Next: Farnborough 1964.

Built in 1941 and still going strong with the BBMF I think.

Re those Sea Hawks..they belonged to 738 Training Squadron and also displayed at the SBAC Display at Farnborough in September of that year.. rivalling (so my reference goes) that of the RAF's famed Hunter team of No.111 Sqn

There is a Seamew in FAA colours (dark sea grey and that curious light green 'sky' favoured by the RN) parked with folded wings ouside a hangar!! Can't recall seeing a Seamew in proper FAA colours.

The Seahawk aerobatic team were 738 Sqdn FAA and were called 'The Red Devils' and performed at the SBAC show and other airshows during 1957.

What a joy to see so many FAA acft flying.

Westland civilian colours.

The huge Gannet formation probably could have been heard in the midlands :roll:

Well spotted, I hadn't noticed it part-hidden behind the Spitfire's tail. Here's a blow-up of it.

I can't see why not provided you use your discretion about how they're used. For research purposes by a specialist group should be fine but please make sure they're not re-published in, for example, a commercial publication.
