David's beautiful new Comet and FSX
Hi
I'm assuming this problem is FSX related but it could be Vista or Graphics card.
Does anyone else see this?
When I load the VC initially the photo realistic element - glareshield, interior detail, pedestal background, seats etc appear crisp and clear.
In a matter of seconds they dissolve into a blurry mess. The panel background and gauges etc however remain pin-sharp.
I've tried changing AA and Anisotropic filter settings both in the program and from the desktop. No difference.
Am I alone?
Cheers
Chris
E6600, GTS 8800 with latest driver, Vista 32, 4 mb ram, sensible o'clocking, FSX with all updates

Re: David's beautiful new Comet and FSX
Thats a graphics card configuration issue. I have the same card with no problem. ;-)

Thanks - you are running it ok in FSX then?

You might try a very neat utility called nhancer (current version 2.2.3)
does wonders for your nVidia card.

Hi Chris,
Yep, its FSX. I'm in work at the moment, but I'll check the card settings when I get home and let you know.

Re: David's beautiful new Comet and FSX
I flew the Comet beta for hours in FSX with no problems (other than I hate FSX), the 2 minute loading time is a pain and with my (different) video card, a complex model like this did cause the 'blurries' outside sometimes. The VC and model were fine though.

Re: David's beautiful new Comet and FSX
I've had time to experiment a little now.
I've changed aircraft and scenery display settings with no obvious solution.
I turned of the weather and achieved a short flight - 30 mins ok but then for no reason the panel blurred up again so it looks like video memory.
Checking spot view the exterior had gone into the same state.
My 8800 GTS is set at default settings and I've applied the new Vista patch to free up video memory.
I wonder if there is something about the textures David uses?
It worries me that I'm the only sufferer but I'll report back if I ever spot the solution
Cheers

Re: David's beautiful new Comet and FSX
Have you got the latest drivers for video card, that sometimes helps. It sounds like the old 'render to texture' problems that haunt certain aircraft (the Hunter being one) in FS9, when you change views the scenery (not the aircraft outside but some VC textures inside) goes blurry. I do not think FSX has an option to turn that off, as FS9 has.

Yep - latest drivers 163.44
I might try rolling back to a previous set but overall my system handles FSX very well with minimum blurries or stutters.
It's so frustrating - I've never really gone for VC's but this is my long time favourite aircraft and the new VC is superb (when I can see it!)
I even, over a long period of time, created my own FDE for the previous version based on all the published data - even simulating the correct behaviour of a turbojet engine - all N1, no N2, and thrust varying with altitude.
Ah well, back to the drawing board...

Re: David's beautiful new Comet and FSX
It does hint at video memory trouble.
The textures are all standard FS formats.
You're looking at around 21mb worth, which is not a lot when you compare to some other models.
Inside the VC everything is DXT3. On the outside the wings are DXT3 & the rest is normally 32-bit.
You could try removing mips from the textures, as some people swear by it.
I get nasty jagged lines without mips, even after changing from an ATI to an Nvidia video card.
If you have the card set to run at high performance, try it at high quality instead.
Other than that, I'm stuck. It's not something I've seen, especially not inside the VC.
