The use of aircraft 'effects'

Post by RAF_Quantum »

Hi,

Most often, an effect that I see is a smoke type effect e.g. contrails, engine exhaust, tyre contact smoke etc. Is it possible for a 'solid' effect to be made and 'attached' to an aircraft permanently through a revised aircraft.cfg ? I know it may be easier to incorporate it into the aircraft model but when the sources are not available it is not possible. I am thinking along the lines of something like this :-

or these

Hi JOhn,

I think you've put the wrong link up as that DC3 shows the Thales aircraft and I guess you're talking about the oil pollution versions :) I don't see any reason why you can't add as many effects to a model as you see fit and plonking a few smoke fx files around the rear end of the Dak to simulate oil dispersant would fit the bill and could be toggled on/off with the 'i' button.

Hi John

Thoe effect are transparent textures....free to wander about letting the background trough to a varying degree.

In order to have a solid teture something has to be there to texture.

This is something that needs to be added in the model as a part :)

Hi Dave,

The Thales was just another example of something to add if it were possible. Smoke/mist spray is an option for someone to add, I think there are some reasonable good crop dust effects available already for folks to add if they wish.

Hi Garry,

Thanks, Yes it was the solid appendages that I was enquiring of. I hadn't realised that all effects were transparent. Shame :-(

Hi John

Smoke and exhausts etc are transparent textures, some effect may be modelled......it's a shame bits and pieces can't be textured on or off but it would probably look a little naff if they could be.
