I just love this back picture so have shown it larger...The Spitfire is a Mk.IIa P7350 and is the oldest airworthy Spitfire in the World. It is also the only example of its type to have flown in the Battle of Britain. On 6th September 1940 it was issued to 266 (Rhodesia) Squadron...Hence my keen interest 8)

I have a photo of myself , a wingless person, entering the cockpit of Hurricane LF363 taken at Coltishall in 1972 or 1973. Sitting there I wondered how on earth 19 year old pilots not only navigated themselves from England to France but also returned to base - the navigation equipment seemed to be compass and MK1 eyeball only!! Very different from today.

It is the sound of any of those aircraft, whether on the ground or in the air, that one never forgets!
