Super '10 - ultra long range Part 2

Post by forthbridge »

Hi all,

Friday night, and as I get settled with a refreshement or two in front of the Goggle box, time to see if the EGQL - Mount Pleasant trip was a fluke. Can the flight be repeated in reverse? Well, in BA colours, we are about to find out! At 8x speed in the cruise, I should be able to watch a film before coming back for the landing.

Did I get really luck last time? Is FS fickle? We'll soon find out - chocks away, what!

It will be interesting to see what differences we get this time. Between 3 and 5k of motion lotion is the target for landing. :worried:

It ain't half! ;-)

Out of pure interest, I used about 1200kg more fuel on the return leg - I am sure this is down to going a little too high too soon, where my speed dropped to 426 kts - although the range crept up nicely - a little drop down got it back to cuise velocity. I think I've got the climb and descent curves now. Of course, I am flying in my own airspace - so no need to get clearance in stages!!!

Having said all the above, if the winds aloft had been in - we would have been sailing from about 1500 miles out...

One for Tonks :)

Just out of interest.....in an emergency can you tap into to fuel you're tanking or is there no (normally inactive) physical link at all to your own system?

Homework again from Manchester lecture...

If I recall correctly, ALL the fuel in the VC10 tankers can be burnt for flight, or tanked. The two systems are fully connected.

Let's see if I'm right! :dunno:
