Very nice, Techy, will need to pay more attention to the take off and landing checks in future...like a silly bugg** , I've been taking off with flaps down!

**EDIT:

OK, having analysed the tones of roundel/flash blue vs. the overall colour, which we believe is blue as well, I have attempted some guess work and adjusted the repaint. I took the original Petter blue of VN799, and darkened it down until when viewed in grayscale, the blue is roughly the right darkness vs. the roundel/flash blue. Here's what we've got:

vs. Petter blue:

(I added the 'Canberra' tagline to this one after seeing it on closer inspection of Ian's scans).

Steve

Seem to have no source for the actual colouring of VN813 at Farnborough, but the blue scheme would most likely have been applied just for the show. I would guess at a blue not far removed from the Petter blue of prototype.

One thing though, VN813 spent most of its life on Nene development with Rolls Royce at Hucknall (near Nottingham). Consequently it still had Nenes when on the De Havilland trials for the rocket motor so should really be shown with the larger engine nacelles housing the Nenes. These are obvious on Ian's photo of VN813 and also shown well on the attached.

Don't suppose anything can be done about it for the sim model though. ;-)

This pic shows 813 with Scorpion fitted and under static test.

As you can see, 813 was in Bomber Command Scheme at the time.

Sorry for the poor quality scans.

Cheers for those pics, Les, it's just unfortunate we still don't know the actual colour. I wonder if there is anyone at Rolls Royce that might know, or be able to find out? I think it warrants a little more investigation. Nice shot of the Scorpion under test there, no doubt I will do 813 in Bomber Command two-tone at some point soon. Regarding the Nene nacelles, yes, good guess, I highly doubt we'll see an accurate model for that unless I learn some modelling skills soon, which believe or not, is an upcoming project. Maybe then I can modify Paul's models with his permission to release some 'one offs' like this one.

I am currently still 'on the road' up in chilly Lake Tahoe (northern California), where we just had a layer of snow last night believe it or not! HEading back to reality and work (boo hoo) tomorrow for a lovely 8 hour drive with the wee one in the back seat. If you don't hear from me in a few days it's because I'm recovering from that dilemma!

See y'all later.

Is that Bill Holker's Canberra or the AlphaSim Canberra? Love the Spectre texture.

Hello Sundog, actually it's neither, it is a sneak preview of one of Paul Foster's new Canberra models that he is currently finishing...

See here for details:

OK. Finally solved the mystery of VN813's blue shade. Whilst trawling the net for anything on her, I found a Farnborough DVD collection on Ebay (all rights-cleared footage) which I hastily snapped up. A good portion of the footage was b/w, but there was a whole disc of colour, and in the 1957 chapter- Bob's your uncle, we have her in colour. I was pleased to see my blue seemed spot on, but the 'Spectre' nose art needed to be orange in colour, so I am re-uploading to the Pond now (on that note, Leif if you could remove the old file and replace with the new one, that'd be great.

Here's a the clip in question:

Isn't it just? Now all we need is a slightly modded model and new rocket-powered FDEs for her, and away we go!

I'll have to put up some of the Sea Hawk display team stuff...they looked lovely in red.
