Model recognition contest

Post by mjahn »

I have been busy modelling a CNB project for the last eight months. It's now about one month away from publication (FS9 freeware) and I felt it might be a challenge to invite the members of this forum to guess what it is.

Here's your pictorial clue:

Now, I honestly don't think anyone will be able to identify a plane on the basis of a VOR aerial, but then with this lot you never know, do you. I'll just add for good measure that

(1) it's an entirely new model that hasn't (as far as I know) ever been modelled for FS;

(2) there aren't any pics of it on airliners.net.

I'll add some more pictorial snippets on a daily basis.

Frst one to nail "it" will be entitled to a flyable beta version.

Cheers,
Manfred

'Fraid not, Garry, but nice try...

Keep guessing folks.

I'm usually offline, so will re-check this thread again tomorrow afternoon, possibly with a new clue.

It's not a Turbo DC-3, is it?

Hmm, non British and not on airliners. net cannot be much that fits that bill that uses a VOR aerial. I see where the turboprop DC3 comes from, but I think not. How about a I.A. 50 Guarani II

Hi Manfred,
Not heard from you in a while. Is it the one from George Dublya land that you told me about after we finished the Lancastrian. The Merlin 500 York went down like a damp squib.

Well the problem with the picture is that nearly every piston (and some turboprop) airliner built from 1930 until the 1960s had that same antenna on it, and most were located in almost the exact same position - over the cockpit. The DC-3, CV-240/340/440, Martin 202 & 404, Viscount, Dove, Heron, DC-4, DC-6, Constellation, etc. all had that antenna installed. So, as a result, if it was from the US, it only eliminates the Viscount, Dove, & Heron from that list. So it must be a DC3240202-7-4-049. :)

Does he mean that specific aircraft or the model of aircraft though? :)

There's a lot of airplanes that aren't on Airliners.net, including the Convair 540, which had such an antenna on it.
