Well as I'm not a purist the landing point was convenient for the flight - Humberside with the smoking chimneys the refinery at Immingham. The Stirling was sadly, not up to the Lancaster standard of bomb capacity or altitude although speed wasn't bad. This was all due to ministerial interference that demanded that the wingspan must allow for the plane to fit into (then) standard hangars. This requirement was not made against the Lancaster. Also, the reason for the huge undercarriage was to get additional AOA for take-off with the max bomb load as the wing incidence had already been raised to the max.
