Trev,

Thought the number of votes was a bit small to be representative, so just had a look. Numbers are now much higher, but same trend!
Which sim do you use MOST of the time?

FS9 (FS2004) 54.71% (93)
FSX 43.53% (74)
X-plane 1.76% (3)
Other 0.00% (0)

Total Votes: 170

I think you need to calm down a bit! Nobody mugged you. And there aren't many posts ANYWHERE on this board which are totally positive about FSX. Mine certainly isn't.
Yep he was mugged, by MS and FSX and the lies they told

Well, there was a demo version released for people to try free of charge. Then the product was reviewed all over the internet, where it's shortcomings were spread widely. So I don't understand how anybody could be surprised at the way the game runs. My initial decision was not to buy it until I had upgraded hardware, but I took the plunge when Horizon did their half price sale.

Sure, FSX has got bugs. But show me software that hasn't. There aren't any show-stoppers in it for me. The news that it might not be patched further is a great disappointment, but I still suspect there may be some more fixes in the future.

I've got the box in front of me now, and it doesn't mention backwards compatibility anywhere. I've never used the multiplayer myself, but some of the Gurus on here have, and profess it to be one of the best features.

Before any service packs, when it was half the sim it is now, 8 of us reinacted the Dambusters raid, in real time at 200ft in the Lanc, including a few chaps who don't normaly use FSX (DB, Trev John P to name a few.) We all had a great time and the MP worked very well. The MP functionality in FSX out of the box is chalk and cheese better than the same functionality in FS9, regardless of what else you may think of FSX, MP is one area that was a great improvement from the offset.

Also, I can confirm that I have my FSX box in front of me and no where does it mention backwards compatibility or Direct X 10, neither did it mention either of these in any of the Betas.

Think we need to make sure we are speaking factually guys and not baised on wait some forum thought FSX would be 2 years ago. ;-)

Anyway, Happy New Year to you all, and I hope we all find more constructive ways to spend our time in 2008 than continuing this boring rant. (I include myself in that xwink )

Perfectly calm.

Yeah I am fiddling with the FSX MP ATM, what you say I find to be true. I uninstalled the Acceleration pack as this seems to stop the MP working the way it should. I've been mucking around with trying to get the shared cockpit mode to work for weeks without any success and after lots of searching the web for solutions.

At any rate it would seem that the Acceleration pack is a rip-off if it causes basic functions of FSX (such as the MP function) to stop working.

The point is.......why the hell should you have to be doing all this hard work after PAYING for a product, I want to fly planes not learn how to be a software programmer. I spend more times fixing problems than flying it seems.
Sure, FSX has got bugs. But show me software that hasn't.

So a person should expect to be 'done' and just put up with it?

much more to this than meets the eye since the worlds largets PC flightsim maker has got into bed with the worlds largest full fidelity flight sim maker (those enormous white boxes on legs).

most folks seem real suprised when i point out that the modern full motion certified level D sims run on a bunch of basically laptops networked together running good old windows XP.

what flight sim has always had over the "proper" simulators is the outside enviroment such as traffic, real weather etc.

now that many "proper" simulators use componants you can get in say PCWorld which makes them much cheaper than custom built componants from the days of old.

not hard to see why a major manufacturer is going to use this, in fact one visit to a sim manufacturer i saw, the visuall database looked a lot like it was FS based, in fact i was convinced it was as near as makes no difference.

if you can use off the shelf hardware, it not a big step to use off the shelf software for certain things.

the cynic in me think that FSX was aimed more at someone who spends millions rather than someone who spends thousands because if whatever becomes the defacto standard...well a certain software company is expert at producing the "standard" and if they do, there is big..big money involved and the hardware folks will have to fall in line.

the casual user make get some crumbs or not be a consideration at all...

be interesting to see, maybe FS9 is the last casual user friendly version, we shall see.

I've not experienced anything in Acceleration that even remotely resembles war! May I ask what you're referring to? :dunno:

Sorry, wrong word....was referring to the missions, acrobatics and stuff like that. I took a look at the nissions, they seemed pretty cool but its not really the kind of simming Im into, Im sure for other people its great. Its only my experience I can speak of but the GAME store I purchased both disks from where selling the Accelertion pack in such a way as to suggest that it makes the basic FSX work much better and faster, this isn't true I now know and it was wrong of the staff to be plugging this product this way. I know they probably dont get paid a lot but even so it is unfair and misleading to say the least.
